Vicki Grefe, a four-sport athlete from Wisconsin Dells High School, came to MATC in 1985. At MATC, she continued where she left off in high school, competing successfully in multiple sports. In volleyball, she was named to the WTCC all-conference team in two consecutive seasons. In basketball, she was named to the WTCC all-conference and WJCAA all-state teams during the 1985-86 season. In softball, she received the 1986 golden glove award, posting a record .936 fielding percentage. “Vicki was a great teammate. She was a team leader by her work ethic and positive attitude on and off the court,” said Kris Quinlan, her teammate on the 1986-87 MATC Women’s basketball team.

Vicki, the 1987 Sportsperson of the year, also excelled in the classroom. During the 1986-87 seasons, she earned all-academic status in volleyball, basketball, and softball. In 1987, Vicki graduated from MATC and is currently back at MATC, on the dean’s list, pursuing her second associate’s degree.

After MATC she worked at Sears & Roebuck in Minneapolis, Minnesota for two years before coming back to Madison to work for Great Lakes Higher Education, where she has been for twelve years. Vicki also found time in her busy schedule to coach. In 1987 and 1989 she served as the freshman volleyball coach at her high school alma mater and from 1994-95 coached the junior varsity volleyball team at Madison East High School.

In 1992, Vicki married fellow MATC student-athlete alum, Joseph Hagen and continues to stay involved in athletics by taking pictures of her husband’s Madison East High School Cross County and Track & Field teams. Both Vicki and Joe have been long-time supporters of MATC Athletics and are current members of the MATC Athletic Alumni Association.
