David Borgrud, a 1975 graduate of Deerfield High School, came to MATC in 1981 after a four year stint in the United States Air Force. While at Deerfield, Dave competed in football and basketball, where he was team captain of both sports and earned team MVP and All-Conference honors in basketball.

As a member of the successful 1981-82 MATC basketball team, Borgrud was named team captain. While his stats were not eye popping, Dave accomplished something more important, he earned the respect of his teammates and provided leadership to a group of very talented individuals. The 81-82 season saw Borgrud average 9.1 points per game, as well as 5 rebounds per game for a team that posted a 22-10 record. Dave Richgels, a teammate of Borgrud's on the 81-82 squad, had this to say about Dave, "Although a talented player, his personal statistics probably suffered as a result of his unselfish, team oriented play. During the closing moments of close games, however, Dave was the one who usually got the crucial rebound and/or made the important free throws." In commenting on Borgrud's leadership abilities, his coach Jack Brenegan added, "Dave had his hands full as captain of that team. We had a lot of strong personalities on the team that year, and Dave's most important contribution was that of leadership. Dave was the glue that held us together."

Dave has remained very involved in basketball, as he helped create and organize a youth-basketball league in Deerfield. He has also been the Deerfield Middle School Basketball coach, as well as a youth soccer and little league coach. Dave's goals as far as coaching including emphasizing fundamentals, sportsmanship, and respect while setting a good example and making a positive impact on the youth of Deerfield. Dave has been involved in hotel management in the past and has been the Director of Sales for Roadstar Inn Motels. He and his wife Karen are proud parents of two children, Troy and Taylor.
