Hall of Fame
It may have been a surprise to him, but it was no surprise to us, that Lyle Hanson has been selected to the MATC Hall of Fame. Since 1977, Lyle has served the MATC Baseball Program through thick and thin, offering his coaching skills, and in recent years, as a coordinator, for the very successful program.
For one year, Lyle took over the reigns, and guided the Trojans to a 26-13 record. Not bad for a guy committed to everyone else's success.
"I gained a great deal of respect for his great knowledge of the game, and his ability to combine a scientific approach to hitting along with his practical experience, and his ability to teach younger players," said Coach Fred Williams, who hired Hanson as an assistant.
Williams shared how he has witness the first hand, (since Lyle and he have shared the same office), the scheduling, transportation, arranging, lodging, scheduling umpires, talking with players, assisting with coaching, and attending numerous meetings, as well as fund-raising. Lyle does all these things without fanfare.
"Lyle has done all this while being a loving father and husband, coaching American Legion teams, and being an active member of his church and community," shared coach Williams.
Peter Olson, Sports Information Director, said of Lyle, "He has an unquestioned loyalty and commitment to MATC Baseball."
Through it all, his wife, Shirley, and his sons, Erik and Bjorn, have always been there for him.
