Hall of Fame
JoAnn has been a teacher, coach and dear friend of MATC since 1969. JoAnn Walker personifies the attributes of an outstanding teacher and coach. She is patient, understanding, tough, fair, professional, ethical, always prepared and she genuinely cares about her students. JoAnn Walker had a major role in the development of women’s sports at MATC and enhancement of women’s sports in the Wisconsin Technical College Conference and Wisconsin Junior College Athletic Association. In 1989 she was honored by the Wisconsin Technical College Conference as their Sportsperson of the Year.
As a coach JoAnn has done it all for MATC. She has coached tennis, volleyball, softball, bowling, basketball, and cheerleading. She coached the MATC women’s basketball team for 8 years and had an overall 114 wins and 49 losses. Her WTCC record was 47-12 with six conference titles. JoAnn has compiled outstanding records as a coach in many sports, but more importantly she was superb in teaching the lessons and values that are always an important part of a competitive sports program. The student-athletes truly love, respect, and admire JoAnn, and are better people having competed under her direction.
As an amateur athlete JoAnn was and still is nothing short of spectacular. She competed in softball, badminton, tennis and archery...and was proficient in all. Golf is probably the sport she is most noted for. JoAnn won the Wisconsin Women’s State Golf Championship several times including unprecedented five in a row. She was the Wisconsin representative to the United States Golf Association for Women.
JoAnn is a common sense kind of women, who believes in and practices what she preaches. She is a loving, loyal and dedicated person. She always gives her best to MATC students, her friends and colleagues and takes back very little in return. To you, JoAnn, thanks for the many years from all of us! You are, and always will be #1 in our hearts. We honor you and WE LOVE YOU!!!
