Mike Capaccio is a 1976 graduate of Woodstock High School in Woodstock, IL, where he played football, baseball, and basketball. Most Valuable Player, All-Northwest Suburban Conference, All-County and All-Area were some of the honors he received that year.

For both of his years playing basketball at MATC, he was second in scoring, first in rebounding, first in blocked shots and named first team All-Conference. In 1977 he was the field goal percentage leader and in 1978 he was chosen Captain and Most Valuable Player by his teammates. Being selected the National Junior College Athletic Association All-Region XIII Team also was one of his many achievements. Mike ranks fifth on the MATC career rebound list with 467 rebounds for an average of 12.3 per game.

He has worked as a counselor and assistant basketball coach at Indian Hills Community College in Ottumwa, Iowa. Mike has been very active in the college and community. He was the advisor for the Indian Hills Student Life Program, a Big Brother, a coach in a fifth and sixth grade church basketball league, and a DARE counselor who works with at risk students.
