Hall of Fame
Cindy Kravick, formerly Cindy Halbach was born in Chilton, WI, and grew up in Kiel, WI, as a three sport athlete at Kiel High School. In high school, Cindy won twelve combined varsity letters in cross country, cheerleading, and track. She was a four year all-conference runner, three year captain and four year team MVP in cross country. Cindy also received all-conference and team MVP honors in track & field, as well.
After a successful high school running career, Cindy enrolled at Madison Area Technical College in the fall of 1997. That fall, Cindy and her team experienced tremendous success. The 1997 Madison College women’s cross country team won the Wisconsin Junior College Athletic Association’s state title for the second time in school history. The team then went on to earn a fourth place national team finish at the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) Division III cross country meet in Hagerstown, Maryland. The fourth place national finish was the best women’s cross country finish in school history. Cindy’s fifth place individual finish was also the best finish ever for a Madison College women’s cross country runner. Her top 5 finish not only helped her team, it earned the talented runner a first team All-American honor, the first such honor in program history. During that 1997 season, Cindy was consistently one of the top finishers in each meet. Her time of 19:10 at the Carthage Invitational ranks as the fastest women’s 5K time in Madison College history. In fact, Cindy owns three of the top seven times in women’s cross country history.
“Cindy was a very talented runner. She definitely wasn’t afraid to work,” commented former cross country coach, Fred Williams. “I remember that she trained with our men’s cross country runners and qualified for nationals in her very first meet of the year.”
Cindy’s cross country career at the college lasted only one year, but the mark she and her teammates left on the cross country program are indelible. Cindy graduated from Madison College in 1999 with an Associate of Applied Science degree in Hotel & Restaurant Management. After college, Cindy worked for Sysco for 15 years before taking her current position as a Sales Regional Account Manager for Meats by Linz two years ago. In addition to her full-time job, she gave back to a sport she loved by serving as a track coach at Westfield Middle School for two years.
“Cindy was an easy-going, consistent runner who was a joy to coach,” commented former head cross country coach, Bill Hausler. “As a talented athlete she made the teammates around her better by pushing them to new heights.”
Cindy is one of four siblings, Syl, Kim, and Tim and their parents are Allen and Chrstine Halbach. Cindy currently lives in Kiel, WI, with her daughters Caitlin and Cailee.
