As the Athletic Director, Douglas Redsten developed and maintained a quality athletic program from 1966-1979. He also coached the men's basketball team to 193 wins and 111 losses in 14 years, compiling two WTCC Conference Championships.
The ever popular Redsten is the behind the naming of Madison College's indoor practice and game facility, the H. Douglas Redsten Gymnasium. The facility was built in 1986 and the first game was played on January 14, 1987. On August 25, 1996, the gym was dedicated in honor of former MATC Athletic Director, Basketball Coach and Golf Coach.
Redsten is also behind the naming of Madison College's main athletic fundraising initiative, the Redsten Golf Classic. The naming of the gymnasium and one of the athletic department's most important fundraisers, illustrates the great and important role Redsten played for MATC athletics who devoted 30 years to students and alumni as a teacher, coach and administator. Proceeds from the event help fund student scholarships and program enhancements.
