Shane Ellis spent two seasons at Madison College stuffing basketball stat sheets and helping the WolfPack continue a run of dominance throughout the state of Wisconsin. A standout at Baraboo High School, Shane’s time on the court at Madison College has few equals.
A three-sport athlete in high school who earned all-state and all-conference accolades in basketball, Shane Ellis arrived at Madison College ready to make a name for himself. As a freshman, he led the WolfPack in scoring and blocked shots as he poured in 18 points per game and rejected a total of 21 shots. The forward/center also posted averages of 6.8 rebounds, 2.1 assists, and 1.8 steals. Shane’s play helped the WolfPack earn a Wisconsin Technical College Conference co-championship, and earned himself WTCC All-Conference, Wisconsin Junior College Athletic Association All-State, and All-Region 13 honors. The team reached the WJCAA semifinals and the Region 13 championship games.
Shane’s second season brought many changes to the men’s basketball team at Madison College, with new coaches and a new freshman guard named Jesse Ellis, Shane’s younger brother. The WolfPack registered a 21-8 record, including a 7-1 mark that won the program an outright WTCC title. Shane again led the team in scoring at 18.3 points per game and was also tops with 2.6 steals and 30 total blocked shots. Additionally, he reeled in 8.2 rebounds and dished out 3.8 assists, second only to his brother. Shane and the WolfPack reached the state and regional finals, but lost in both games. Following the season, Shane was recognized as Honorable Mention NJCAA All-American, to go along with first team all-conference and all-region for the second straight year. He was also voted the team’s most valuable player and was a team captain.
For his career at Madison College, Shane currently ranks seventh all-time in scoring with 981 points, 12th in career rebounds with 406, sixth in steals all-time at 119, and fifth in blocks with 51.
“Shane was a highly recruited player out of Baraboo,” stated former Madison College Head Men’s Basketball Coach Kelly Boe. “A tremendous offensive talent and versatile player that could score at all three levels. That versatility made him a matchup nightmare for opponents. Defensively, his size and athleticism allowed us to play effectively against big and small teams."
Following Madison College, Shane continued his education at UW-Milwaukee. He currently resides in Waunakee, Wisconsin, with his wife and two children.
