Known as an outstanding rebounder, Tricia (Tregloan) Borgrud, was more than that to her MATC teams that posted a combined 35-12 record, winning conference titles both years. She was also an outstanding scorer who performed at her best against quality competition.
She was an WTCC All-Conference player and a WJCAA 2nd team all-state player in 1983-84. She averaged 12.2 points a game and 8.2 rebounds per game for MATC in the 1984 Conference championship season. For her career, she finished 11th on the all-time rebounding chart with 399 boards and 8.5 rebounds per game. She also scored 523 points in her career, for an 11.1 points per game average. Her stats are impressive, but her most significant contribution was always in the form of leadership.
Tricia graduated from MATC with an Associate Degree in Medical Secretary. She is currently employed at the University of Wisconsin Hospitals as a Senior Administrative Confidential Secretary.
The leadership qualities that Tricia gained while at MATC, have extended into the Deerfield community, where she helped run the Deerfield Community Center Basketball Clinics, while coaching youth leagues and forming a 3rd and 4th grade traveling league. She is also the commissioner of the Deerfield Women’s Softball League and still finds time to teach Sunday school as well as being a friend to a confirmation child.
As her coach, “My first impression of Trish was that this tall, attractive, vivacious young woman was possibly better suited for a model’s runway than a basketball court. But she changed that with a feisty, determined attitude and great hustle. She was an easy player to coach and a team player all the way.”
Tricia has said, “MATC was a great learning experience for me coming from a small town. Even after graduating 15 years ago, MATC continues to be a presence in my life.”
She is married to Michael Borgrud and they have two children, Garrett, age 8 and Seth age 5.
