Ellen Epping was known for her basketball success, though she played softball as well at MATC. She travelled the 10 miles from Waunakee, where she was captain and MVP for her Warrior volleyball and basketball teams.
She established herself quickly as a Trojan, averaging 16.4 points per game her freshman year and came back stronger her sophomore year to average 17.9 points per game. Over her career Ellen scored 793 points to put her fourth on the all-time list. She is also eighth on the all time list in rebounding with 358 and a 7.7 average per game. Honors followed Ellen throughout her career. She made the WJCAA All-State and WTCC All-Conference teams both years. She led her team to the NJCAA Region XIII Tournament in 1994 where she was named a NJCAA All-Region XIII player. She topped off those honors by being named a NJCAA Honorable Mention All-American and made the All-Academic team as well.
Ellen received her Bachelor of Science degree in Physical Education in 1988 and her Master of Arts degree in 1990. Ellen has been the Assistant Athletic Trainer/Instructor at Eastern Illinois University. Ellen lives in Charleston, IL, where she has volunteered her expertise to the Red Cross and has been active in CPR and First Aid Instruction.
