Hall of Fame
Dan Niebuhr began his outstanding MATC wrestling career in 1984, following a stand-out prep career at Madison East High School that saw him capture a state title as a senior in 1984. Niebuhr was also East's Most Valuable Wrestler in both 1983 and 1984.
During his two-year wrestling career at MATC, Dan accomplished just about everything. He was a two-time National Champion at the 177 weight class, as he captured NJCAA titles in 1985 and 1986. It was also in 1986 that Dan was named the Most Valuable Wrestler at the NJCAA National Tournament. Niebuhr's two-year record at MATC was an incredible 75-4. Dan rewrote the record books of MATC wrestling as he still holds records in such categories as victories, near falls, takedowns, and accumulated team points.
Dan's career after MATC was just as impressive, as he captured NCAA Division I All-American honors in 1989 as a 177 pounder for Fresno State University. After earning his degree in Secondary Education and History in 1991 from Oklahoma State University, Dan concentrated his efforts on Greco-Roman wrestling. He has been a member of Team USA, and has experienced a great deal of success at the international level. Dan placed second at the U.S. Nationals in both 1993 and 1994 and earned a second place finish at the 1993 World Cup. Dan has been a member of the elite Sunkist Kids Wrestling Club, and has trained at the Olympic Training Center in Colorado Springs for the World Team and World Championship trials. Niebuhr missed out on two Olympic teams berths as he placed 5th in the 1992 Olympic Trials and 3rd in the 1996.
Dan has worked as personal trainer in his spare time in Colorado Springs and has pursued a career with the Colorado Springs Fire Department. In his free time, Dan enjoys rock climbing, spelunking, and fishing.
