Brian grew up in Germantown, WI, where he was a three-sport athlete at Germantown High School.  Brian was also a two-year letter winner in basketball and served as a team captain in both his junior and senior seasons.  Brian earned all-conference honors his senior year while starting as guard for the Warhawks.

Brian enrolled at Madison College in the fall of 1997.  In his freshman season, Brian made an immediate impact earning the team’s most valuable player honors and being named to the all-region team.  Brian played in all 36 games during the 1997-98 season and led his team in field goals, free throws, rebounds and assists.  He was third on the team in scoring with almost 14 points per game and tied for the most points scored that season with 502.  Brian did everything that was asked of him and more as his team went 25-11 winning conference and state titles along the way.  Brian was successful off the court as well, earning Wisconsin Technical College Conference all-academic honors for his academic achievement.

After an outstanding freshman campaign at Madison College, Brian picked up where he left off in the prior season.  On the floor, he was the team captain earning most valuable player honors for the second consecutive season to go with all-conference, all-state, and all-region honors, as well.  Brian’s team once again finished with an impressive record, going 25-9 and winning conference and state titles for the second consecutive year prior to losing the region final.  During the 1998-99 season, Brian played in all 34 games for the WolfPack shooting 50 percent from the field and scoring almost 15 points per game.  He was third on the team in rebounds and dished out over three assists a game.

When the dust settled on Brian Koch’s Madison College basketball career, he left the program as the third leading scorer in program history with exactly 1,000 points.  Brian still ranks fourth overall in career scoring, ninth in career rebounding, fourteenth in career steals and fifth all-time in career assists.

“Brian was an excellent player who did everything well.  He could score, pass, rebound, defend and was driven to succeed,” said Head Coach Scot Vesterdahl.  “Brian worked very hard to improve all facets of his game and that led to his success. Brian was also an excellent teammate.  As one of our captains, he had all the attributes that you look for in leaders… he was a team player, dependable, goal oriented, prompt, organized, trustworthy and displayed a great work ethic.”

Brian graduated from Madison College in the spring of 1999 with a degree in Recreation Services and went on to earn his bachelor’s degree in Accounting.
