Hall of Fame
James Strommen was inducted into the MATC Athletic Hall of Fame on May 3, 1988. Jim was a 1972 graduate of Pecatonica High School in Blanchardville, WI where he starred in football, basketball, baseball, and track. He earned a total of 10 varsity letters.
At MATC, Jim participated in basketball and baseball. He led the basketball team in free throw percentage with an 80% his first year and a 76% rate his second year. He was a team leader in play-making and assists and according to coach Doug Redsten, "Jim is one of the most competitive athletes I've had the pleasure of coaching. He was extremely coachable and assumed a strong leadership role to bring together a team composed of many talented players." Jim was chosen as the District 4 Board Sportsperson of the Year in 1974.
Upon completing his degree in Marketing at MATC, he went on to UW-La Crosse where he earned his degree in Physical Education and Health. Since then, he taught physical education and health, and has coached various sports (including baseball, basketball, and football) at Pecatonica and Pec/Argyle high schools. As the head football coach for Pecatonica/Pec-Argyle, he amassed a coaching record of 163-52. His teams won 13 conference titles, qualified for the Wisconsin high school playoffs 14 times, and was chosen Dodgeville Area Coach of the Year in football several times. As head baseball coach, Strommen compiled a 310-107 record and won the conference championship 7 times. Strommen also serves as the school's Athletic Director.
He has been a member of the Wisconsin Athletic Directors Association, Wisconsin Football Coaches Association, American Baseball Coaches Association, the Wisconsin Baseball Coaches Association, and a 2004 inductee into the Wisconsin Football Coaches Association Hall of Fame.
