Class of 2019 sits ten strong for WolfPack volleyball

New group seeking to put Madison College back atop the conference, region

Second year Madison College volleyball coach Jeff "J.T." Thomas has announced Thursday a ten-member incoming Class of 2019 as the team begins preparations for the new season. The group features Calla Borchert (Lake Mills, WI), Catie Flannery (Green Bay, WI), Samantha Kessenich (Evansville, WI), Lena La Fleur (Mt. Horeb, WI), Jaidyn Lange (Fall River, WI), Kaleia Lawrence (Gladstone, MI), Skyler Salter (Milton, WI), Madeline Schulist (Mt. Horeb, WI), Sidni Walgurski (Green Bay, WI), and Amelia Walton (Verona, WI).

Calla Borchert racked up 126 kills, a team high .360 hitting percentage, and 81 total blocks as a senior at Lake Mills High School. She was named team captain and MVP, as well as second team all-conference in the Capitol North Conference as a senior. Borchert plans to pursue a Dental Hygiene degree while at Madison College.

"Calla has been a stand-out front court player for her high school team over her career. She's an extremely productive player and a natural leader, which will serve our program well going forward."

Catie Flannery, who stands 5'8", transfers in from NCAA Division III Alverno College in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, where she played in 30 matches at outside hitter and defensive specialist. She posted 202 kills, 254 digs, 27 aces, and 23 blocks. As a prep player at De Pere High School, Flannery set single-season school records with 272 kills and 430 digs. Flannery plans to study Criminal Justice.

Samantha Kessenich spent 2018-19 playing volleyball at NAIA Clarke University in Dubuque, Iowa, where she played on the varsity reserve team. As a prep player, Kessenich was a two-time all-conference selection in the Rock Valley Conference as an outside 5'10" outside hitter/opposite. She intends to major in Nursing.

Lena La Fleur is a 5'9" setter that helped guide the Mt. Horeb Vikings for the past two seasons. As a junior, she was part of a Badger North Conference championship team that went 7-1 and reached the sectional final.

Jaidyn Lange was a honorable mention all-conference selection in the Trailways West Conference as a senior. The versatile Lange led the Pirates with 94 digs, while also posting 34 kills and eight aces.in her final prep season. 

"Jaidyn has been the "rockstar" of her high school team this past season, being voted team captain and MVP. Her hustle and never give up mentality will no doubt help the WolfPack program reach new heights on-and-off the court."

Kaleia Lawrence took home Offensive Most Valuable Player in the Great Northern Conference and a first team all-conference honoree. She plans to pursue the Dental Hygiene program.

"Kaleia is an electric setter, a coach's daughter, and a product of a winning program at Gladstone High School. She will undoubtedly drive our program in a positive direction and help trigger a dynamic offense."

Skyler Salter was a three-year varsity player and racked up 1,350 assists, 572 digs, and 111 service aces during her career with the Red Hawks. The 5'9" setter intends on pursuing a health education major. 

"Skyler is a setter that has a fierce competitive nature about her. As team captain, she developed tremendous leadership skills and will be someone that sets the bar high for hard work, focus, and sacrifice within our program."

Madeline Schulist was a two-year varsity player for Mt. Horeb High School and played club volleyball for Wisconsin Select. The 5'7" defensive specialist plans to enroll in the Fire Protection Technician program

Sidni Walgurski is a 6' middle blocker that led the Bay Port Pirates in blocks her senior season. Voted team captain by her teammates, the two-year varsity player amassed 215 kills and 128 total blocks in her career. Walgurski intends to study Occupational Therapy.

"Sidni is excited to showcase her skills and to be able to join a diverse group of players at the collegiate level. She will be a force to be reckoned with above the net, serving as our first line of defense."

Amelia Walton was full rotation player for the Verona Wildcats, helping the program to a Big Eight Conferenc championship as a junior. As a senior, she posted 155 kills, 25 aces, 27 total blocks, and 64 digs.

"Mia is a very versatile athlete that loves the game of volleyball. She can play front or back court and wants to be in on every play. On top of being a talented athlete, she also excels in the classroom. Mia will make an immediate impact for the WolfPack on defense and will also add depth to the outside hitter position."
