SKIPPING THROUGH: Madison College outlasts St. Clair County in five sets

First-ever win at Div. II championships sends WolfPack to another consolation round

CEDAR RAPIDS, IOWA - A women's volleyball program rich in championship history, #11-seeded Madison College secured its first-ever win at the NJCAA Division II National Championships by outlasting #12-seeded St. Clair County Community College in a 3-2 (23-25, 25-21, 21-25, 25-12, 16-14) decision in a consolation second round match on Thursday. Freshman Ella Vosberg broke a single-season record as the WolfPack are now 2-1 in five set matches this season as they beat the Skippers in the first meeting between the two programs.

St. Clair County Community College (28-9) owned the momentum early, racing out to an 8-1 lead in the first set. The Skippers gifted Madison College four points of a 5-0 run later in the set, as a Makayla Dallas ace closed the gap to 14-12. Back-to-back aces from Avery Agnew capped another five-point surge that gave the WolfPack their first lead at 18-17; however, a 3-0 burst for SCCC reversed a one-point Pack lead into a two-point deficit and eventually resulted in the first set win for the St. Clair.

A Dallas kill nearly midway through the second set was the first of four straight points and a 12-9 lead. The continued in a back-and-forth manner until a Sam Schultz kill and ace provided some breathing room at 22-19. Following two consecutive points for S4C, the Pack closed out the set win with Ella Vosberg and Allie Andrews kills, followed by set point on an ace by Rowan Harder.

The third set mirrored the second and saw Madison go ahead 6-4 with a four-point run that included three kills by Vosberg. A quartet of attack errors by the WolfPack a short while later gave the Skippers an 11-10 advantage. Even at 20-20, the Pack took a one-point lead off a double hit by the opposition. The set then belonged to St. Clair, winning the final five points.

Facing elimination and the end of their season, Madison College continued to fight and followed another three kills by Vosberg to an early 8-2 lead. Dallas' third kill of the set extended the differential to 11-3, and a 4-0 surge later in the set catapulted the Pack to a commanding 18-6 advantage. The lead peaked at 15 when Andrews served up an ace to make it 24-9, and Dallas forced the decisive fifth set with a set-winning kill.

In the fifth, Dallas contributed to more kills to a 4-0 run that gave Madison College an 8-5 lead as the teams switched sides. Up by four at 12-8 after a kill from Schultz, the Skippers battled back with four straight kills to even the set at 12-12. An attack error by St. Clair gave the WolfPack match point at 14-13; however, a hitting error off the hands of Vosberg tied the score yet again. Vosberg made up for it, coming through with the next kill to re-establish match point, and an attack error by SCCC handed Madison College the historic win.

Madison College racked up season-high 66 kills and a .188 attack percentage, compared to 50 kills and a .140 efficiency by St. Clair County Community College. The Pack also added a dozen aces, five blocks, and a season-best 109 digs that is the most in a match since a 127-dig performance in 2021.

Vosberg delivered a second-consecutive career-best kills effort with 24. The 5'11" outside hitter surpassed the previous best single-season kills mark of 443 set by Paige Hostetler in 2018 as she boasts 456 for the season.

Dallas, a native of Valders, Wisconsin, also had a career match with 18 kills and 21 digs for her second double-double of the season, to go along with two blocks. Schultz, a first year outside hitter from Oconomowoc, Wisconsin, earned her ninth double-double in 2025 with 11 kills and 22 digs. She added three aces to her final stat line to match Harder for the team lead.

Andrews finished with 48 assists, 15 digs, seven kills, two blocks, and an ace as part of her 12th double-double.

Defensively, Agnew, a second year libero, led the WolfPack with 32 digs just one day after breaking the single-season record of 630 set in 2014 by Sydney Clarson. Agnew, a native of Milton, Wisconsin, not boasts 664 on the year. Fellow sophomore Cora Webster added 11 digs.
