As she closes in on setting a new single season records for shutouts, the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) has selected Madison College's
Kelly Kubicek as it Division III Women's Soccer Goalkeeper of the Week for September 24-30 (Week 5). The national honor is the first such award for Kubicek and the first this season for the WolfPack women's soccer program. Kubicek becomes the second player in the program's history to earn a national weekly award, joining
Katie Travis in
September 2016.
The 5'7" goalie from Oregon, Wisconsin, recorded clean sheets back-to-back wins as Madison College defeated Elgin Community College, 5-0, and Harper College, 3-0. Kubicek combined to make nine saves in the two wins, which increased her total shutouts to eight and pulled her even with former player and current goalkeeper coach
Brandie Gospodarek for the most in a single season.
The freshman has made 39 saves and allowed just five goals in helping the #9-ranked WolfPack to a 9-1 record overall and a league-leading 7-0 mark in the North Central Community College Conference. She currently ranks fourth in the nation with a 0.51 goals-against average and tied for eighth in total goals allowed.
Kubicek and the WolfPack (9-1, 7-0) travel to the College of DuPage on Wednesday for a 4:00 p.m. kickoff in Glen Ellyn, Illinois, as they continue their pursuit of a second straight N4C championship. Madison College returns home to close out the regular season with back-to-back games at
Irwin A. & Robert D. Goodman Pitch-East against Joliet Junior College (9-2, 6-1) and Triton College (0-6-2, 0-5-1).
