Where are they now?: Kristin Myers (Brochtrup)

Since 1972, women's volleyball has been a sport at Madison College. In those 42 seasons, maybe no one player has made as large of an impact at Kristin Myers (Brochtrup). Currently, the 2006 first team All-American, stands second all-time in digs and kills, while also residing in the top 10 in blocks and aces.

Today, Kristin resides in Scottsdale, Arizona, moving there on a whim back in 2008. "A friend and I got together, she scribbled a contract on an old envelope stating I was moving to Arizona in six months and I signed it," said Myers. "Six months later, I found an apartment with her, enrolled in massage school, packed up my Honda Civic and made the biggest move of my life. A week later, I met my future husband (Tom). Things definitely happen for a reason."

Just last year, the Myers family welcomed a new addition, daughter Charlie. A life-altering event that resulted in the Kaukauna, Wisconsin, native giving up her career as a sports massage therapist. However, Kristin couldn't be happier.

"She doesn't know it yet, but that little bundle of love has taught me more in the last year than I could have ever imagined," Myers says smiling. "She has taught Tom and I about love and sacrifice."

Kristin's biggest sacrifice has been a little thing called free time. With her husband spending anywhere from 60 to 70 hours a week as Sergeant of the SAU Team, a full-time SWAT unit, Charlie and her mom are nearly attached at the hip.

"I've become a master of multitasking, juggling impossibly large loads with a 25 pound baby on one hip, and performing all tasks with one hand," she jokes. "There is a constant test of character, patience and leading by example."

All things, Myers says she learned while a student-athlete at Madison College. "The athletic program is full of so many great leaders and role models," Kristin recalls. "Coach Toby Parker, Steve Hauser (Athletic Director) and Jason Verhelst (Sports Information Director), they taught me so many life lessons. Of course I didn't realize it at the time, but as I get older they continue to surprise me and show up."

Now, when not wrapped up with her daughter, Myers follows a lesson taught to her by her father. "You work hard. You play hard."

Outside of work, the Myers stay as active as possible. "Tommy and I love playing sports together," Kristin says. "Volleyball, tennis, pickle ball, flag football and whatever crazy game he makes up. We often get our friends together a few nights a week and play something."

Just like Frank Sinatra, who Kristin routinely listens to while cooking dinner, she's got the world on a string. "What a world, what a life, I'm in love."
