Late run, storm result in suspended Game 1 between Madison College, Triton College

WolfPack now have two games suspended with a tie score this season

MADISON, WISC. - The Madison College softball team was in search of a needed win on Tuesday when Mother Nature, and some clutch hitting by Triton College, stepped in. The WolfPack and Trojans were suspended in the seventh inning tied at 1-1 in the first game of a scheduled doubleheader at Robert D. Goodman Softball Field. A date to resume the game, as well as play the postponed second game, has yet to be determined.

A pitcher's duel through 2.5 innings saw Madison College take a 1-0 with a crucial extra base hit. Sophomore Hanna Stremkowski led off the home half of the third with a triple to right. Sadie Svendsen, a first year shortstop, then lofted a sacrifice fly to right field to plate Stremkowski and put the Pack in front. The WolfPack also got a two-out double from Cassie Coffey; however, she was stranded at second with a strikeout of Hayden Schabel.

Starting pitcher Lauryn Etienne continued to dominate the Trojans bats, including striking out the side in the fifth inning. After the WolfPack left two runners stranded in both the fourth and sixth innings, Etienne stepped back in the circle to try and finish off the win. A leadoff single gave Triton College (13-12) some hope, and after a sacrifice bunt and a passed ball, the game-tying run was now 60 feet from home. The inning's third batter sent a fly ball to left for a sacrifice fly to tie the game.

Following two pitches to Stremkowski to start the bottom of the seventh, a lightning strike and on-coming storm suspended play.

The WolfPack is 31-18 all-time against the Trojans.

Madison College also has a suspended game through seven innings with Milwaukee Area Technical College from April 9 after that game was suspended with the score even at 11-11.
