Madison College ties for second at Highland Spring Invite

Freshman Haggart nets third place with career-low round

FREEPORT, ILL. - Since starting three years ago, the Highland Spring Invite has been a very kind tournament for the Madison College golf team, who tied for second on Monday at The Freeport Club. It's the third top-5 finish for the WolfPack after they won the event in 2023 and placed fourth last year. Freshman Matthew Haggart led the way with a career-best round en route to his second top-five of the season.

Madison College posted its best 18-hole team score of the spring, and fifth-best round of the season, with a 317 (+29) to tie with Black Hawk College A in the ten-team event. Host Highland Community College claimed the tournament title with a 307.

Haggart signed off on three birdies and nine pars en route to his three-over-par 75 and a third place finish. The native of Minocqua, Wisconsin, bested his previous low by one stroke. Wil Sigwarth of BHC won the individual title with an even-par 72.

Peter Gustafson carded a six-over 78, which included a 38 on the back-nine. The sophomore from Monticello, Wisconsin, tied for 13th with three others as he matched his best round of the spring schedule.

Fellow second year Alex Sutter played his best golf in 2025 with a plus-nine 81 to tie for 20th. And Roberto Reyes made his spring debut with an 83 (+11) to earn a tie for 25th. Brady Piazza turned in an 84 (+12) to place 30th with two others.
