PERRY PARK, KENT. - The Madison College golf team opened the spring portion of their 2024-25 season with the nine-team Klash in Kentucky, a 36-hole event played at
Perry Park Golf Resort on Saturday and Sunday. The WolfPack finished in eighth-place overall after sliding back two spots following the first 18 holes. Sophomore
Peter Gustafson secured his second Top 20 finish of the season as he tied for 16th overall.
Madison College posted a 325 opening day score to sit in sixth place overall; however, the Pack posted a 335 team total for Round 2 and finished with a 660. The eighth place finish was nine shots better than last place Trinity Christian and 11 shots back of Bryant & Stratton College in seventh place. Carthage College won the team title with a two-day total of 597.
Gustafson, a native of Monticello, Wisconsin, used three birdies on the back nine during Round 1 to shoot five-over-par 78. He again signed off on three birdies over 18 holes for a plus-six 79 to reach 157 (+11) to earn a seven-way tie for 16th. James Tyrrell of Carthage College was the individual medalist with a one-over-par 147, winning the two strokes.
Freshman
Matthew Haggart struggled out of the gates, posting an 11-over-par 84 to begin the tournament. The Minocqua, Wisconsin, native, recovered to shoot six-over 79 with three birdies on the front side and six pars on the back on Sunday. Haggart's 163 (+17) earned him a tie for 31st overall.
The remaining three golfer for Madison College were separated by five shots. First year players
Brady Piazza and
Ben Arnett finished tied for 42nd and tied for 46th, respectively. Piazza posted one birdie and shots rounds of 81-91 to reach 172 (+26), while Arnett went 82-94 with one birdie for a 176 (+30). Second year
Alex Sutter was one shot back of Arnett with a 177 (+31) to place 49th out of 52 after rounds of 91-86.

Madison College will return to competitive play on Tuesday, April 15 with the PrairieView Classic at
PrairieView Golf Club in Byron, Illinois. The event acts as a tournament preview for the Region 4 Tournament held at the same course later in the month. Tee times have yet to be announced.
