PLYMOUTH, IND. - After qualifying for last spring's NJCAA Division II National Championships, the Madison College golf team was rewarded with an invite to the 2024 NJCAA National Championship Fall Preview Tournament at the
Golf Club at Swan Lake Resort, the site of the upcoming 2025 national tournament. The WolfPack, competing against 15 of the country's top NJCAA Division II programs, placed 15th with a total of 630 after rounds on Monday and Tuesday. Freshman
Roberto Reyes led the team with a tie for 43rd individually.
Madison College opened the two-day, 36-hole event with a 308 team total and was tied for 11th; however, a 322 final score on Round 2 to fall to 15th. They finished 39 shots ahead of Marian University Ancilla (IN) and four shots back of fellow Region 4 foe Highland Community College. Parkland College (IL) won the team title with a 582, and Black Hawk College was the top Region 4 representative as the Braves tied for ninth at 615.
Reyes, a former Sheboygan North HS athlete, was part of a nine-way tie for 43rd after shooting a 154 (+10). He opened with a six-over-par 78 and closed with a four-over 76, moving up 17 spots en route to being the only WolfPack player with two rounds in the 70s. Jeremy Godin of Murray State College (OK) was the tournament medalist by two strokes with a four-under 140 (69-71).
Fellow freshman
Brady Piazza owned the Pack's top score in Round 1 with a career-best two-over 74, but dropped 32 spots on the leaderboard with Tuesday's plus-ten 82. The Waunakee, Wisconsin, native, finished with a 156 (+12) and tied for 54th.
Matthew Haggart ended the tournament tied for 69th with a 159 (+15) after turning in a four-over 76 and an 11-over 83 that resulted in a drop of 28 spots. Sophomore
Alex Sutter was the final counted score for Madison College with a 162 (+18) and a tie for 75th. The native of Mount Horeb, Wisconsin, signed off on an eight-over 80 for Round 1 and a ten-over 82 for Round 2.
Second year
Peter Gustafson concluded his two-day tournament in a tie for 82nd at 165 (+21). He shot 83 (+11) and 82 (+10) to move up three spots on the leaderboard. Freshman
Ben Arnett competed as an individual and finished tied for 92nd in the 96-person field with a 174 (+30) with rounds of 83 (+11) and 91 (+19).Â

Madison College will concluded the fall portion of the 2024-25 season at the Eagle Classic on October 14-15. It is hosted by Kirkwood Community College, who was the national runners-up in 2024 and finished fifth at the NJCAA Fall Preview. Play begins at noon on October 14, followed by a 9:00 a.m. start on October 15.
