WolfPack conclude fall schedule at Eagle Fall Classic

Madison College finishes ninth, Gustafson places 33rd to lead the team

AMANA, IOWA - The Madison College golf team played their fifth and final event of the fall portion of their 2024-25 season, and closed with a ninth place finish at the Eagle Fall Classic, hosted by Kirkwood Community College at Amana Colonies Golf Club on Monday and Tuesday. The WolfPack competed against eight other teams, many of whom have been the elite programs in the nation the past few seasons, and posted a 653 team total to take last. Sophomore Peter Gustafson was the Pack's top individual finisher in a tie for 33rd.

Madison College opened with a Round 1 team score of 326 to sit six shots back of eighth place. The WolfPack then turned in a 327 total for Round 2 to finish last in the event by 16 strokes behind Mount Mercy University. Host Kirkwood Community College finished first with a 594 team total.

Gustafson, a native of Monticello, Wisconsin, signed off on a first day score of eight-over-par 80 with two birdies and seven pars. The second year player improved by one stroke with a plus-seven 79 on Tuesday to finish in a five-way tie for 33rd overall with a 159 (+15). Hawkeye Community College's Kaeden Anderson posted the event's lone sub-70 round to finish first with a three-under 141.



Freshman Brady Piazza registered the team's biggest improvement from Monday to Tuesday, following up an 11-over 83 with a plus-five 77 to improve nine spots on the leaderboard with a 38th place finish at 160. The former Waunakee HS athlete had two birdies and seven pars during his opening nine, and then finished with three birdies and eight pars the following day. Piazza closed his tournament with with a two-under 34 on the final nine holes.

Alex Sutter, a sophomore from Mount Horeb, Wisconsin, signed off on rounds of nine-over 81 and 84 (+12) for a 165 (+21) total that dropped him eight spots into a tie for 46th. Roberto Reyes tied for 49th with a 169 (+25) total after shooting an 82 (+10) and an 87 (+15). The team's final scores came from freshman Matthew Haggart, who shot 86 (+14) and 87 (+15) to place 53rd at 173 (+29).

Up Next:

Madison College will return to competitive play with their Spring 2025 schedule, which is yet to be determined. It will conclude with the three-day NJCAA Region 4 Tournament at PrairieView Golf Club in Byron, Illinois, from April 27-29. The top three teams and next four individuals advance to the NJCAA Division II National Championships at The Golf Club at Swan Lake Resort in Plymouth, Indiana, from May 20-23.
