Schmiesing entered the fourth day tied for 20th on the leaderboard and one shot back of the final NJCAA All-American spot. The native of Fitchburg, Wisconsin, began on the back nine with consecutive pars before taking a bogey on the par 3 12th. After three more pars left him one over through six holes, he closed the first nine with a bogey and two double bogeys for a 42 as he made the turn.
The Region 4 medalist righted the ship on the second nine with a tournament-long string of six pars in a row. A bogey on the par 4 7th and a double bogey to close out the tournament on No. 9 conluded his round with a front nine 38 to sign off on his second 80 of the week. Over four days, Schmiesing's scorecard read 80-76-76-80 for the 312 total. The field included 66 players that competed in all four rounds, with the NJCAA awarding All-American honors to the top 18 finishers.
Schmiesing, who likely still hit the shot of the tournament with a 180-yard hole out for double eagle on Wednesday, finished with 42 pars to tie for the sixth most by any player in the field. His final tally was the eighth-best for an individual qualifier. Schmiesing's play over the last two events dropped his spring season scoring average under 80 to 79.9, which was tops for the WolfPack.
Sandhills Community College (NC) dominated the week with a tournament record team total of 1,147 to shoot five-under-par as a team. The Flyers' Ben Read was the medalist with a tournament record score 281 (-11). Region 4 champion College of DuPage surged over the final two days to finish third overall at 1,252.
