Sophomore shoots second sub-80 round to finish in Top-20

WEST DUNDEE, ILL. - The second event of the Spring 2023 schedule saw the Madison College golf team play to a 12th place finish at the 16-team Judson University Spring Invite at Randall Oaks Golf Club on Monday. The WolfPack combined for a 327 (+43) team score, with sophomore Tyler Koch leading the effort and earning his first top-20 finish in an event of more than four teams.

Koch, a native of Neenah, Wisconsin, signed off on a seven-over-par 78, one shot back of his career-low round of 77 at the Viterbo V-Hawk Invitational last October. His tie for 19th place overall is his best result out of seven stroke-play tournaments featuring at least 30 golfers.

Freshman Braeden Skifton posted a new career-best round in his second event, shooting a ten-over 81 to grab a share of 36th place. Jake Rebholz, a second year player, was next at 12-over 83 and a tie for 46th overall. The final score that counted came from freshman Brent Schmiesing, who followed up a great spring debut at the Cougar Classic with an 85 (+14) to tie for 55th place.

Fellow first year Brady Callmer carded his highest round of collegiate golf, finishing tied for 62nd with an 86 (+15). Freshman Matt Sitte competed as an individual for Madison College, and wound up in a tie for 75th overall with an 89 (+18).

NCAA Division III Lake Forest College won the team title with a 307 team tally, while the College of DuPage was the top junior college program with a 315 to finish fifth. The Chaparrals' Charlie Gneiser took medalist honors with a one-over-par 72.
