GLEN ELLYN, ILL. - The current three-game win streak for the Madison College women's basketball team has featured an average margin of victory of nearly 52 points, and it's a run that included a 92-38 victory Saturday at the College of DuPage in a North Central Community College Conference game. Sophomore
Aniah Williams, who joined the program's
1,000-point club in the team's previous outing, led four players in double-figures with 22 points and was one of three players with nine rebounds. The 54-point victory surpasses the
43-point decision over COD in January, and gives the 'Pack a 15-game win streak and a 27-13 lead in the all-time series.
The game was close early with a 12-12 tie halfway through the first quarter, but Madison College changed that with a 13-1 scoring run to close out the game's first ten minutes with a 12-point lead. The visitors added eight more points to open the second quarter, during which they outscored the College of DuPage (6-21, 3-9) by a 21-7 margin and owned a 46-20 advantage at halftime. The differential continued to grow throughout the second half, which featured runs of six, six, twelve, and eight.
Madison College converted 36 of 77 shots to shoot 46.8%, while also going 6 for 16 (37.5%) from long range and 14 of 26 (54%) at the free throw line.The visitors also collected a 45-34 edge in rebounding that included 23 offensive boards and led to a 24-9 advantage in second chance scoring. The WolfPack was also better in in points off turnovers by a 44-7 tally and controlled the paint to the tune of a 48-12 edge in interior scoring.
Williams was good on 10 of 21 shooting with one 3-pointer and one free throw to push her career scoring total to 1,023, and leaving the Beloit, Wisconsin, native just 21 points away from Dana Wagner (2007-09) for third on the all-time scoring list. Williams also matched a career-high with nine rebounds, to go along with four steals and three assists.
Forwards
Lilly Dorman and
Kylie Esser both flexed their muscle inside with matching 17-point, nine-rebound performances. For Esser, a product of Highland, Wisconsin, the totals establish a new career-high in scoring and match a previous highwater mark in rebounds. She now boasts three double-digit scoring games, and added a team-best five steals that also matched her previous career-high. Dorman, a Madison-native, now owns 13 games with at least ten points and narrowly missed her sixth double-double this season. She did added season-best totals for assists with four and steals with three.
Sophomore
Mrylena Stewart rounded out the double-figure scoring with 14 points on 5 of 7 shooting that included a perfect 3 for 3 effort outside the arc. It's her tenth game of ten or more points this season.
Freshman
Autumn Delaney also set new career marks three statistical categories, scoring nine points, dishing out seven assists, and collected eight steals.
Up Next:
Madison College (16-8, 8-4) will spend the final week of the regular season completing a three-game road trip, which continues Wednesday, February 12 at Triton College (19-7, 9-2). The Division II Trojans won by a 68-49 margin in Madison last month and have never swept the regular season series with the WolfPack, who are 18-4 all-time agianst Triton College. Game time is at 5:00 p.m.
