Road loss snaps three-game win streak for #15 WolfPack

Williams only player in double-figures with season finale set for Saturday

RIVER GROVE, ILL. - The Madison College women's basketball team had a chance to close in on second place in the North Central Community College Conference standings Wednesday night, but a rough shooting performance left them on the short end of an 88-42 contest against Division II Triton College. The WolfPack, ranked #15 in the NJCAA Division III Poll, posted their second lowest field goal percentage and third lowest three-point percentage of the season, with sophomore Aniah Williams as the only player to reach double-figures. The loss snaps a three-game win streak for the 'Pack, and gives the Trojans their first regular season series sweep against Madison College since the two became conference foes in 2009-10. Triton College has won three of the last four meetings, however, the WolfPack still own a comfortable 18-5 edge in the all-time series.

The game's first five minutes saw Triton College (20-7, 10-2) race out to a 17-2 lead keyed by a 13-0 run. After freshman Kylie Esser hit the first shot of the night for the WolfPack, the visitors missed their next six attempts. Madison College rebounded to close the first quarter on a 10-5 push to make it 22-12. The hole grew much deeper in the second quarter as the Trojans outscored the 'Pack 29-8, using runs of seven, 11, and six points to pull away. Starting the second half in a 31-point hole, the differential grew further as Madison College went without a basket for more the final 5:19 of the third quarter, which turned into a bigger seven minute drought as the fourth quarter began. The WolfPack did win the final ten minutes by a 13-10 margin.

Madison College shot 25% for the game, going 16 for 64 overall and just 2 for 18 (11%) from beyond the arc. The Trojans were good on 50% of their overall shots and hit 9 of 17 (53%) three-point attempts. The home team also earned a 52-37 lead in total rebounds, an 18-7 advantage in second chance points, a 31-9 differential in points off turnovers, and a 44-24 lead in points in the paint.

Williams tallied 18 points on 6 of 14 shooting and made both of the team's 3-pointers. The Beloit, Wisconsin, native now sits at 1,041 career points and is three points back of third place on the all-time scoring list.

Esser, a forward from Highland, Wisconsin, had nine points and six rebounds, tying fellow freshman Kyianna Baker for the team lead in rebounds.

Triton College now sits 2.5 games ahead of Madison College for second place in the N4C. Rock Valley College clinched their tenth straight league title this past weekend and have won 36 consecutive conference games.
