Fourth quarter rally nets narrow WolfPack win over rival Stormers

Williams drops 31 points to surpass 900 for her career

MADISON, WISC. - The finish to the 87th all-time meeting between Milwaukee Area Technical College and Madison College on Wednesday provided as unique a finish as has likely ever been seen in the long-standing rivalry between the two in-state programs. In the end, the WolfPack survived with an 82-79 victory in a North Central Community College Conference women's basketball game at H. Douglas Redsten Gymnasium to extend their winning streak in the series to four straight. Sophomore Aniah Williams tallied a season-high 31 points to help the 'Pack overcome a 16-point fourth quarter deficit and take a 74-13 lead in the head-to-head series.

Milwaukee Area Technical College (9-11, 4-2) jumped out to a 7-1 lead, but the WolfPack answered with an 8-0 run to assume a 14-13 lead that didn't last long as the visitors closed the first quarter with eight straight points of their own. That surge continued into the second quarter as the Stormers eventually built a 22-point lead on what amounted to a 25-2 stretch that saw the home team only score from the free throw line. Madison College finally snapped a more than nine-minute field goal drought with a Williams layup with just over four minutes to play in the half, and it ignited an 18-2 flurry to bring the halftime score to 40-34 in favor of MATC-Milwaukee. The third quarter saw the Stormers register ten consecutive points to push the lead to 16 entering the final ten minutes, however, they would play the entire fourth quarter with just four players after two fouled out during the third. Via scoring runs of six, eight, and seven, Madison College eventually took the lead at 77-75 with two minutes remaining. After Milwaukee eventually tied the score with free throws and regained the advantage with a layup, the home team poured in the final five points on a free throw and two interior baskets by Williams to win the game.

Williams, who set the single-game scoring mark with a 41-point effort as a freshman, moved into eighth all-time in points as her 31-point outburst moved the Beloit, Wisconsin, native passed the 900 mark (928). The 5'8" guard scored 13 of her 31 in the fourth quarter, and finished 12 of 22 from the floor with a three-pointer and 6 of 13 at the free throw line. It currently stands tied for the 20th best single-game scoring performance in program history.

Freshman Amber Sue Udelhoven earned her third start of the season and went on to score 13 points. The 5'6" guard from Potosi, Wisconsin, made half of her four baskets from beyond the three-point line and was 3 for 3 at the charity stripe. The sixth double-digit scoring game of her season fell one-point shy of matching her career best, however, Udelhoven did establish a new career-high with five steals.

First year forward Olivia Marron was good for eight points and a career-best 12 rebounds. Marron has grabbed at least ten boards in three of the last seven games. Sophomore guard Mrylena Stewart dished out a team-leading four assists and was one of six total players to register at least eight points.
