Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

Third straight win comes as WolfPack more than double up Chaparrals

Big first quarter sets up Madison College to open extended homestand with a win

MADISON, WISC. - The Madison College women's basketball team has rebounded from an 0-2 start in the North Central Community College Conference to win three straight games after a dismantling the College of DuPage by an 84-41 final Wednesday night at H. Douglas Redsten Gymnasium. The WolfPack jumped out to a big first quarter lead, and then used a balanced offensive attack that resulted in five players scoring in double-figures to push their win streak over the Chaparrals to 14 consecutive. The all-time series now stands at 26-13 in favor of the 'Pack.

Fast starts are quickly becoming the norm for coach Lois Heeren's team as a 10-2 start was followed up by an 11-0 run en route to a 14-point lead after ten minutes. The College of DuPage (5-15, 2-3) fought back in the second quarter to close within five at 23-18, but the home team responded with a Julia Bruns three-pointer to kick start 21-6 push to halftime. Sophomores Aniah Williams and Lilly Dorman each had six points during that stretch, and the WolfPack led by 20 at the half. The differential continued to soar throughout the second half, with Madison College going on separate runs of seven, seven, and 14 points.

Forwards Olivia Marron and Lilly Dorman led the WolfPack with 14 points each and were a big part of the home team earning a 46-20 advantage in points in the paint. Marron recorded her second career double-double as she went 7 for 12 from the floor and pulled down ten rebounds after making her third consecutive start. The 5'10" freshman has scored ten or more points in six of the last nine contests. Dorman, meanwhile, was 5 for 7 overall and 4 for 5 at the free throw line, to go along with four boards. The former Madison East High School athlete owns double-digit scoring totals in four straight games and in eight of the past 12 outings.

Second year guard Mrylena Stewart added 13 points, three assists, two steals, and a blocked shot to the winning effort. The 5'1" guard made one of her five baskets from long range and converted both of her free throw attempts to secure fifth game with at least ten points. Fellow sophomore guard Aniah Williams contributed 12 points, as well as a season-high four steals and four assists. Her three 3-pointers mark the fifth time this season she has knocked down that many deep shots. The four assists were matched by first year players Amber Sue Udelhoven and Kylie Esser for team-high honors. Like Williams, Udelhoven also had four steals and four rebounds to go along with six points.

Freshman Ceraya Morel played in just her second game since suffering an injury in November and poured in a career-best 11 points on 5 of 8 shooting with one 3-pointer.

Madison College shot 46.7% (35-75) for the game, and posted it's second best three-point percentage in a game this season by making 7 of 16 shots for 43.8%. And their 18 turnovers marked the third-lowest total for a game in 2019-20. The WolfPack posted a 32-12 lead in points off turnovers, a 10-5 edge in second chance points, and a 46-20 differential in points in the paint.
