MADISON, WISC. - With a barrage of buckets in the game's final minutes Wednesday, sophomore
Aniah Williams reached the 1,000-point mark for her career and helped the
15th-ranked Madison College women's basketball team to a resounding 81-47 victory over North Central Community College Conference foe Wilbur Wright College. Following special recognition of second year players
Tyra Day,
Lilly Dorman,
Mrylena Stewart, and Williams for Sophomore Night (see video of ceremony above), the All-American proceeded to net 25 points on a night she needed 24 to reach the magical moment inside
H. Douglas Redsten Gymnasium. Williams becomes the
fourth member of the 1,000-point club in program history, joining Rachel Slaney (2015-17), Alicia Haag (1988-89), and Dana Wagner (2007-09).
Williams, a native of Beloit, Wisconsin, tallied seven points in the opening quarter, but cooled off in the second and had nine points at the break. She added three points in the third quarter, leaving her 12 points shy with ten minutes to play. With less than five minutes remaining in a game that was already decided, the 5'8" left-hander began to string together some baskets. Five consecutive points brought her within a handful with two minutes to play, so the WolfPack called for #23 each time down the floor and Williams delivered. Three straight layups in traffic pushed her over the threshold and into history.
Williams finished the night with 25 points on 11 of 23 shooting, but struggled to go 1 for 8 from long range and 2 for 10 at the free throw line. She now boasts ten games with at least 20 points this season and improved her average to 18.3 points per game. Williams also added four rebounds, two steals, and one assist.

Wilbur Wright College (8-14, 2-9) put up more of a fight going forward as the rest of the game proved most competitive, with the WolfPack growing the differential to 42-16 at the half. An 8-0 run to end the third quarter made it a 28-point game before the 'Pack cruised to the finish to win by 34.
Joining Williams in double-figures were fellow sophomores Dorman and Stewart, both of whom transferred to Madison College this season. Dorman recorded her fifth double-double of the season with 16 points and ten rebounds. The Madison-native was 6 for 12 overall and knocked down all four of her free throws en route to her 12th game with ten or more points. Stewart, who also grew up in Madison, buried two of her five baskets from beyond the arc and added two free throws for 14 points, while also leading the team with four assists and three steals. She owns eight double-figure scoring games in 2019-20.
Freshman
Kyianna Baker narrowly missed her own double-double after coming off the bench to produce nine points and ten rebounds.
Madison College shot 49% (31-63), but was good on only 3 of 15 three-pointers and 16 of 27 at the charity stripe. They also dominated in other facets of the game, finishing plus-15 in rebounds, plus-13 in second chance points, plus-17 in points off turnovers, and with a 48-18 edge in points in the paint.
