Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Win streak halted at five with 4-2 loss to #9 Triton

Early goal doesn't hold up as N4C title hopes dwindle

MADISON, WISC. - The first of back-to-back chances for the Madison College men's soccer team to make a final bid towards a North Central Community College Conference title ended with a 4-2 loss Saturday at Irwin A. & Robert D. Goodman Pitch-East. The WolfPack took an early lead before seeing their season-long five-match win streak come to an end as the Trojans swept the regular season series, while also boosting their lead in the all-time series to 21-7-1.

For the first time in 2019, Madison College was able to net a goal within the first ten minutes of the match. Freshman Samuka Toure sent a lead pass to fellow first year Bobby Urey, who dribbled up the left side of the field before putting on the brakes just inside the penalty area. The 5'7" midfielder/forward then snuck a kick just inside left upper 90 in the 9' for the former Madison West High School athlete's third goal of the season.

The 1-0 lead held up for about 24 minutes before Triton College (12-1, 6-1), who entered the game as the #9-ranked team in NJCAA Division III Poll before jumping to #7, tallied the equalizer in the 33'. The Trojans used that momentum score two more goals before the end of the half and led 3-1 at the half. That differential grew to 4-2 midway through the second half with a 78' goal from the Trojans.

The WolfPack was able to tack on a late goal when freshmen Andy Mendez-Maya and Bubacarr Bah connected for an 89' scoring strike by Bah for his first career goal.

Statistically, the match was much closer than the score indicated, as Triton owned narrow shooting margins over the home team, with a 13-11 advantage in total shots and a 9-6 edge in shots on goal. Toure was the team's most aggressive shooter with three shots that were all around the net.

First year goalkeeper Sebastian Varela got the start and allowed three goals while making four saves. Sophomore Saxon LaFlash replaced him at halftime and picked up one save and one goal allowed.
