MADISON, WISC. - The Madison College men's soccer team suffered its second straight loss to a nationally-ranked opponent when it fell 5-1 to Harper College at
Irwin A. & Robert D. Goodman Pitch-East on Wednesday. Freshman
Samuka Toure scored the WolfPack's lone goal, however, the
#9-ranked Hawks answered with four straight goals to earn their fifth consecutive win in the head-to-head series. Prior to kickoff, the team celebrated its five-member Sophomore Class of 2019, which included
Saxon LaFlash,
Ben Saric,
Evan Bartz,
Sam Bradfield, and
Msughter Abel Dzoho.
The visiting Hawks (10-7, 8-1) jumped on the scoreboard first with a rebound goal off an initial save made by LaFlash in the 19'. The one-goal differential remained through halftime, but Madison College pulled even when Toure snagged a loose ball just inside the penalty area and sent a left-footed laser past a diving 'keeper for the 53' equalizer. The forward from Brooklyn, New York, leads the team with five goals and 14 points this season.
Unfortunately, the tie score lasted just five minutes when a Madison College own goal gave the Hawks a 2-1 lead and proved to be the game-winner. Harper College then rattled off three goals in the span of ten minutes to bust the game open.
The WolfPack was only able to generate five total shots in the match and put three on goal, while the visitors tallied 18 total shots with 11 on goal. The Hawks also owned a decisive 12-2 advantage in corner kicks. Toure,
Lucas Martin-Heid, and
Bubacarr Bah were the three players to register a shot on goal.
LaFlash, a Madison, Wisconsin, native, started the game in goal and made two saves. However, a bad collision in the first half forced second year 'keeper to come out. Fellow sophomore
Msughter Abel Dzoho played the final 54 minutes and surrendered four goal and made four saves.
Harper College now leads the all-time series by a 17-8-1 margin.
