WolfPack men and women ready for postseason competition

Men begin play Wednesday, women start Saturday

Postseason basketball has arrived as the Madison College men's and women's basketball teams prepare to make deep runs through the Region IV Tournaments and into March Madness.

The WolfPack men will open postseason play with a sense of déjà vu as they play the College of DuPage in a quarterfinal game for the second straight year. Under first year coach Bill Kegler, Madison College enjoyed its best finish ever the North Central Community College Conference standings, posting a 10-4 mark that culminated in a tie for second place. At 18-10 overall, the 'Pack earned a #3 seed in the tournament and will battle the #6 seed Chaparrals, who are 4-22 on the year and went 4-10 in the N4C to place sixth. The game is Wednesday night and will tip off at 7:00 p.m. inside H. Douglas Redsten Gymnasium. It will be broadcast live on MadisonCollege.TV and via the Madison College Athletics Facebook page.

Madison College swept the regular season series with DuPage, winning 70-51 in Illinois and by a 92-65 final in Madison one week ago, and have earned victories in three of the past four meetings. The lone loss was last year's postseason game, which came down to the final possession in a 64-62 Chaparrals win. It marks the only postseason meeting between the two programs. The WolfPack is 9-10 all-time in head-to-head matchups, including a 6-3 mark in the capital city. Madison College is coming off a home loss to #7-ranked and top-seeded Rock Valley College, which snapped a four-game win streak, while DuPage enters the playoffs having dropped four games in a row.

The winner advances to the Region IV semifinals at Rock Valley College in Rockford, Illinois, on Saturday, February 25, and will play the winner of Wednesday's quarterfinal between #2 seed Elgin Community College (25-5) and #7 seed Harper College (6-23). The WolfPack lost at Elgin back in December, and picked up two wins over Harper.

The Madison College women concluded the regular season as the #6-ranked team in the NJCAA Division III Poll and in second place in the North Central Community College Conference standings for the second straight season. First year coach Lois Heeren guided the WolfPack to a 20-6 overall record, marking the fourth consecutive season the 'Pack have reached the 20-win plateau. Combined with an 11-3 mark in the N4C, Madison College earned a #2 seed in the Region IV Tournament and a first round bye. They will being postseason action with a semifinal game against #3 seed Joliet Junior College (19-10) on Saturday, February 25 at 3:00 p.m. at Rock Valley College in Rockford, Illinois. The game will be broadcast live on MadisonCollege.TV and via the Madison College Athletics Facebook page.

The WolfPack split its two games with Joliet Junior College during the regular season, with the home team taking each contest. The Wolves, who defeated #6 seed Elgin Community College 78-42 in the quarterfinals, earned a 72-67 defeat of the 'Pack in Illinois that ended a four game Madison College win streak in the series. That streak included a 95-87 decision in the second N4C game of the season. The all-time series stands at 16-10 in favor of the WolfPack with a 9-2 edge in games in Madison. Saturday's showdown will mark the fourth postseason meeting in the head-to-head series with Madison College owning a 2-1 advantage after a narrow 60-55 win in last year's Region IV semifinal. The last five gatherings have been decided by ten points or less.

The winner will play again on Sunday in the Region IV Championship game against either #1 seed Rock Valley College (26-3) and #5 seed Milwaukee Area Technical College (15-12).
