The time has almost come. This Friday, Aug. 29, 2014, Madison College will proudly present their first ever women's soccer team. The WolfPack is set to host Elgin Community College at
Reddan Soccer Park's field #4 in Verona, Wisconsin, at 7:30 p.m. under the lights.
"Friday will be a great day for our Madison College women's soccer student-athletes and coaches, as well as for the entire department and college as a whole," said Director of Athletics
Steve Hauser. "We have anticipated watching our intercollegiate soccer team play an intercollegiate contest for the past three years, as we have gone through the process required to add an intercollegiate sport. We are proud to have this in our family of offerings and look forward to our student-athletes developing and experiencing success through their involvement for years to come."
Though it may be year one, the success Hauser speaks of weighs heavy on the mind of head coach
Tory Pomeroy. "I hold very high expectations for myself and the launching of this program," Pomeroy said. "I am a long range visionary and want what's best for this program. It is so important for the sport I love so much, as it is not only local but global."
"I have not gone easy on this group," she continued. "This current week is a time for team bonding, in anticipation of the competitive season we have facing us."
Madison College has eight home games on their regular season slate, six of which will be played at Warner Park. Outside of their game against Elgin Friday, the only other matchup that will see the WolfPack play away from Warner will be when they host South Suburban College in Waunakee, Wisconsin, Sunday, Sept. 7.
As for what Coach Pomeroy would like to see in her team's first game? "A crowd would be wonderful," she joked. "Seriously though, it's like a ribbon-cutting ceremony for this program. We hope the surrounding community is just as excited for this as we are."
