LAKE CITY, MINN. - No team improved more from Round 1 to Round 2 than the Madison College men's golf team after a 16-shot turnaround at the Jewel Invitational at The Jewel Golf Club on Monday and Tuesday. The WolfPack finished 12th as the only junior college program in the NCAA Division II tournament, with sophomore Kaden Zinkle leading the Tuesday effort with a round of even par to move up 22 spots on the leaderboard.

Madison College posted a 326 (+38) team score for the opening 18 holes, then regrouped to shoot 310 (+22) on Tuesday for a 36-hole total of 636 (+60). The 16-shot improvement was the biggest in the field, and the 310 total marked the tenth-best team score of the day. The WolfPack sat five shots behind the Minnesota State University-Mankato B team. Host Winona State University won the event with a one-over-par 577.

Zinkle and Kellan Jacobson were tops after Monday's round with a pair of seven-over-par 79s. Round two saw Zinkle post his second even-par round of the season with a 72 to finish at plus-seven 51, moving up from a tie for 51st to a tie for 29th overall. The native of DeForest, Wisconsin, amassed eight birdies and 15 pars over the two days. Jacobson followed his opening round with an eight over 80 to sit tied for 54th with a 159 (+15) after he registered three birdies and 20 pars.

Jacob Schmeltzer, a sophomore from Merrill, Wisconsin, improved five strokes from an 82 (+10) to a five-over 77 that brought him to match Jacobson at 159 and part of the five-way tie for 54th. Schmeltzer tallied three birdies during his second round and 18 pars over the two days.

Sophomore Jack Kammer rounded out the scoring with a 167 (+23) to tie for 67th place after rounds of 86 (+14) and 81 (+9). His five-shot improvement included a birdie and eight pars on Tuesday after a Monday round with seven pars. And freshman Logan Cunningham was 71st with a 180 (+36), turning in 18-hole scores of 89 (+17) and 91 (+19) with a total of two birdies and eight pars.

The individual medalist was Brennan Weckwerth of Concordia-St. Paul with a four-under-par 140.

Madison College returns to junior college competition on October 5-6 with the Battle for the Mississippi to complete the fall portion of their schedule. The 36-hole event is hosted by Black Hawk College at Oakwood Country Club in Coal Valley, Illinois. Tee times begin at 9:00 a.m. on both days.
