SUN PRAIRIE, WISC. - A location change for the 2026 edition of the WolfPack Challenge resulted in some near record-setting scores as Madison College finished third in its lone home event at Prairie Pines Golf Club. Sophomore Kellan Jacobson paced the Pack with a tie for second place in the 34-player field, which took advantage of perfect conditions throughout Thursday and Friday. 

Madison College opened the event with a 299 and sat in fourth place; however, the WolfPack turned in a 300 on Friday to leapfrog Carthage College (B) into third place with a 599, which ties for the second best 36-hole team score in program history after the 2023-24 team posted scores of 594 and 599 in back-to-back events to open their season. Highland Community College claimed the team title with a one-over-par 569, followed by Carthage College (C) in second at 593.

Jacobson, a native of Fort Atkinson, Wisconsin, was part of a four-way tie for runner-up with a one-over 143. The sophomore recorded an eagle on the par 5 seventh hole, as well as six birdies and 21 pars en route to an opening round 72 (+1) and a final day 71 (E). Jacobson was one under at the turn of the final 18 holes. AJ Anderson of Highland earned medalist honors with a six-under-par 136 that began with an opening round 65 (-6) that fell three shots shy of tying the course record.

Second year Kaden Zinkle tied for 13th overall with a ten-over-par 152. He carded 27 pars and one birdie over his two rounds as he turned in a four-over 75 and a six-over 77. Fellow sophomores Jacob Schmeltzer and Jack Kammer were right behind him in a tie for 15th place with a pair of 11-over 153s. Schmeltzer, a Merrill, Wisconsin, native, moved up nine spots on the leaderboard after an opening round 78 (+7) and a final round 75 (+4) that establishes a new career low. In all, he signed off on seven birdies and 15 pars. Kammer, a transfer from Sauk Valley Community College, amassed seven birdies and 16 pars as he shot a season-low 76 (+5) and 77 (+6). 

Freshman Logan Cunningham rounded out the WolfPack five with a 29th place finish at 165 (+23). He turned in his first collegiate sub-80 round of five-over 76 on Thursday, but followed with an 89 (+18) to close out the tournament. Cunningham accounted for three birdies and 16 pars.

Sophomore Parker Morrow shot a 96 (+25) on Thursday before withdrawing due to injury on Friday.

Madison College has a quick turnaround to compete in the MSU/CSP Fall Brawl, a NCAA Division II Tournament hosted by Minnesota State University-Mankato and Concordia University-St. Paul. The two-day, 36-hole competition is held at Troy Burne Golf Club in Hudson, Wisconsin, features a dozen teams, with the WolfPack being the lone two-year program. Tee times start at 8:00 a.m. on Monday and Tuesday, September 14-15. Live scoring can be followed via Scoreboard.
