HUDSON, WISC. - For the second year in a row, the Madison College men's golf team was the lone two-year program in a field of NCAA Division II teams at the Maverick Fall Brawl at Troy Burne Golf Club on Monday and Tuesday. The WolfPack placed 12th out of 12 teams, with sophomore
Kaden Zinkle leading the way with a top 50 finish.
Madison College improved by 16 shots from Round 1 to Round 2, posting a 341 after the opening 18 holes and returning with a 325 on the final round. The 666 team score was 23 shots back of 11th place Minnesota State University-Mankota (B). Mary University (ND) took the team title by two shots over Concordia-St. Paul with a 590 final score.
Zinkle, a DeForest, Wisconsin, native, shot up 17 spots on the leaderboard after shooting an opening day 85 (+14) and rebounding with a plus-four 75. The two-day total of 160 (+18) was good enough to earn a tie for 44th overall. Zinkle tallied two birdies and 21 pars. Brennan Weckwerth of Concordia-St. Paul was the individual champion with a two-day total of 141 to win by two shots.
Kellan Jacobson started strong with a a team-best 82 (+11) on Monday; however, dropped three strokes and ten spots on the leaderboard with a second round 85 (+14). The sophomore's 167 (+25) tied him for 60th with two others after he amassed two birdies and 15 pars.
The WolfPack also counted a 169 (+27) and a 170 (+28) from
Jacob Schmeltzer and
Jack Kammer, respectively. Schmeltzer placed 63rd overall after rounds of 86 (+15) and 83 (+13) with 15 total pars, while Kammer's rounds of 88 (+17) and 82 (+11) earned him a tie for 64th after turning in two birdies and 12 pars.
Logan Cunningham, a freshman from Wisconsin Dells, Wisconsin, rounded out the Madison College scores with a 182 (+40) to place 68th by two shots. He shot rounds of 93 (+22) and 89 (+18) with 11 pars.
