BYRON, ILL. - The Madison College golf team tied for third at the three-day Region 4 Division II Tournament, missing an automatic spot at the national tournament by 18 shots Tuesday. The trio of sophomore

Jacob Schmeltzer earned All-Region 4 accolades by finishing in the top 15 of the 54-hole event.
The WolfPack had it going early in the event, holding the lead through much of the first 18 holes on Sunday. When Round 1 ended, Madison College sat fourth with a 314. Round 2 on Monday saw the Pack go one-shot lower with a 313, holding their place in fourth and leaving the 12 shots back of second place for the last automatic berth to nationals. In the end, Madison College turned in a 941 team total after another 314 in Round 3, moving into a tie for third place with Carl Sandburg College. Black Hawk College earned the Region 4 Championship with a 905 score, while Highland Community College was second at 923.
Haggart overcame a slow start to work his way up the leaderboard and eventually tied for fifth place. The native of Minocqua, Wisconsin, shot a nine-over 81 to open play and sat tied for 22nd overall. Haggart responded with back-to-back two-over-par 74s to reach 229 (+13) for the tournament. Overall, he accumulated six birdies and 31 pars to best his finish from 2025 by seven shots and eight places. Marquez Angeles of Bryant & Stratton College secured the individual medalist - and lone individual qualifier - with a 219 after rounds of 69-74-76.Â
Jacobson and Schmeltzer matched each other with 237 (+21) scores to join a three-way tie for 15th, securing the final All-Region 4 spots. Schmeltzer, a native of Merrill, Wisconsin, opened with back-to-back career-best rounds of five-over-par 77 to sit tied for eighth after both the first and second rounds. He capped the tournament with an 83 (+11), and racked up six birdies and 26 pars. Jacobson posted a ten-over 82 on day one, but jumped eight spots up to a tie for 17th with a plus-four 76. The final round resulted in a seven-over 79, and gave the Fort Atkinson, Wisconsin, native, a total of three birdies and 29 pars.
First year
Kaden Zinkle had an up-and-down tournament that, ultimately, ended with him tied for 21st at 241 (+25). The former DeForest Area HS athlete was tied for 3rd after an opening round two-over-par 74. The tied turned with a second round 89 (+17) that drop him 20 spots to 24th. Zinkle recovered for a plus-six 78, reaching four birdies and 28 pars.
Micah Lenway played the first two rounds for the WolfPack, turning in rounds of 83 (+11) and 86 (+14) for a 169 (+25) that tied him for 35th overall. The Faribault, Minnesota, product, started two-under through his first three holes and finished with three birdies and 11 pars.
Gavin Davidson took his place for Round 3 and carded an 89 (+17) with seven pars.
