Madison College's
Marcelino Edison Alonso saw his name appear on not one, but two national awards lists in early July. In the latest issue of
Diverse Magazine, Alonso was a second team honoree in baseball for the
Arthur Ashe, Jr. Sports-Scholar Award. The recognitions continued on July 9 when he became a first team selection on the
College Sports Communicators (CSC) 2025 Academic All-America College Division At-Large Team.
Alonso, a native of Reedsburg, Wisconsin, led the WolfPack with 65 hits, nine home runs, 57 runs scored, and 14 stolen bases, while also sitting second on the team with 48 runs batted in. For his efforts, Alonso earned First Team All-Region 4, Region 4 Tournament Most Valuable Player, and named to the Region 4 Rawlings Gold Glove Team after not committing a single error all season in the outfield. Madison College finished 45-11 and fifth in the nation after making a record-setting seventh consecutive - and 14th overall - appearance at the NJCAA Division II World Series.
Academically, Alonso is a two-time Academic All-Region 4 honoree, and is likely to become a two-time NJCAA All-Academic Student-Athlete when that is announced later this month. He was one of 13 Madison College student-athletes previously selected to the CSC Academic All-District Team in 2025. Alonso recently
committed to NCAA Division I Indiana State University to continue his academic and athletic careers.
