MILWAUKEE, WISC. - Wednesday's in-state Region 4 showdown between Madison College and Bryant & Stratton College came down to the bitter end before sophomore
Cole Rogers beat the clock and the Bobcats with a goal in the final seconds for a 2-1 victory. The third game-winning goal of the season for Rogers pushed the unbeaten and #14-ranked WolfPack to their 11th win in a dozen matches this season. The Pack now boasts a 3-0-2 mark all-time against BSC.
Madison College's first shot on goal was one of absolute beauty from freshman
Johan Lopez in the 23'. The forward from Baraboo, Wisconsin, played a two-man game with second year
Rodrigo Lasso on the right side of the pitch before Lopez dribble the ball towards the right boundary of the penalty box. There he unleashed a pinpoint accurate bender that looped over the goalkeeper and under the crossbar from an extremely tight angle for a 1-0 lead. The successful scoring strike is his sixth of the season and third in the last three matches.
Bryant & Stratton College (4-9) posted the equalizer in the 36' on a penalty kick that beat first year goalkeeper
Caylen Coventry, who dove to his left despite the ball going to his right.
It remained a 1-1 match through halftime and deep into the second half despite tons of offensive - and defensive - pressure from the WolfPack. It all paid off in the final seconds when freshman
Guilherme Amaral came up with a big steal deep in the attacking zone. Lopez collected the loose ball and quickly threaded a pass through the defense to Rogers, who was sprinting into the penalty area. With just seconds left on the clock, Rogers took one swing with his left leg and snuck a low kick between the 'keeper and the left post for the game-winner.
The WolfPack racked up 17 total shots and put six on goal, compared to four total shots and three shots on goal for BSC. Madison also held a decisive 18-5 advantage in corner kicks, while the Bobcats were awarded four more yellow cards than the Pack.
Lopez led all players with three shots and two shots on goal. In all, 11 Madison College players attempted a shot in the match. Coventry finished with one save and one goal allowed in the win.
