WolfPack's Carpenter named NJCAA Pitcher of the Week

Sophomore struck out 13 in win over Triton College

The National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) named Madison College's Michael Carpenter the Division II Baseball Pitcher of the Week for April 15-21 (Week 7). The award is the first such honor for Carpenter, and the first for WolfPack baseball since Jarrett Scheelk claimed player of the week accolades in 2019.

Carpenter, a lefthanded pitcher from Hartland, Wisconsin, led Madison College to a 13-0 shutout of Triton College on April 20. The sophomore struck out a career-high 13 batters, becoming just the 11th pitcher in program history to do so. Carpenter took a no-hitter into the fifth inning and finished with just two hits allowed.
The southpaw currently boasts a 1.22 earned run average that ranks third in NJCAA Division II, and is ninth nationally with 14.01 strikeouts per nine innings. Over 44.1 innings of work this spring, Carpenter has allowed six earned runs and racked up 69 strikeouts. He is 5-2 on the season over seven starts and nine appearances. Over his last four outings, the former Arrowhead HS athlete has not allowed a single run, has surrendered ten hits, and has recorded 39 strikeouts.

Carpenter and the WolfPack are currently ranked #14 in the NJCAA DIvision II Poll and are scheduled to resume a big homestand this weekend with doubleheaders on Friday against Carl Sandburg College, Saturday, against Kankakee Community College, and Sunday against Elgin Community College.
