MADISON, WISC. - Following a tough weekend at the Parkland College Tournament and a match postponed on Tuesday, the Madison College women's volleyball team jumped at the opportunity to host a match Thursday against Region 4 foe Oakton College, and earned a three-set sweep by scores of 25-17, 25-11, 25-18 to get back to their winning ways. The WolfPack posted a .342 attack percentage inside
H. Douglas Redsten Gymnasium, marking their second-highest hitting efficiency in a match this season as setter
Brooke Anderson matched a career-high for assists. The result also improved the Pack to a 12-0 all-time record against the Owls.
Leading 9-7 in the first set, sophomore
Amber Horn led Madison College on a quick 4-0 run with a block, a kill, and an ace to create a little separation. The teams played side out volleyball for most of the rest of the set, which ended with a kill from second year middle blocker/right side hitter
Courtney Gorum.
In the second set, the score was even at 9-9 when two Oakton College (10-15) errors were followed by an Anderson ace and a Gorum block for another four-point swing. After an Anderson serving error halted the run, the WolfPack rattled off seven straight points on the service of sophomore
Faith Radecke, who registered two of a career-high four aces during that stretch. The set came to a close thanks to a 5-0 surge and two kills from
MaKayla Weisner sandwiched around one by Horn.
Similar storylines continued to play out in the third set, where the home team used back-to-back Gorum kills to ignite a five-point run from down 9-8. Two more rallies of four consecutive points down the stretch helped the WolfPack finish off the sweep.
Madison College finished with 35 kills and eight attack errors on 79 swings to reach their .342 efficiency. They also racked up nine aces, 7.0 blocks, and 44 digs.
Anderson, a former River Valley HS athlete, amassed 31 assists in running the WolfPack offense, equalling her season-best output against Milwaukee Tech on September 24. She also had a kill, two aces, 1.0 block, and four digs.
Gorum, the former WolfPack assistant-coach-turned-player, led the way with a dozen kills and hit at a .429 clip. The 6'3" native of Chesapeake, Virginia, remains second on the school's all-time kills list with 636. Weisner, a Mosinee, Wisconsin, product, also hit .429 with six kills on 14 attempts. Horn produced seven kills, five digs, 3.0 blocks, one ace, and one assist.
Stoughton, Wisconsin, native,
Faith Radecke's four aces were tops behind the service line, where five different WolfPack players earned at least one ace.
Second year libero
MacKenzie Thom was the lone player in double-figures for digs with a dozen.
