Madison College baseball coach
Mike Davenport has been selected as an assistant coach for the NJCAA Baseball All-Star Team, which is set to compete at
Baseball Week Haarlem in Haarlem, Netherlands, from July 12-19, 2024. Davenport will assist head coach Marty Smith of the College of Central Florida, and be joined on the coaching staff by Rob Valli of RCSJ Gloucester. The trio will lead an assembled team of NJCAA All-Stars as representatives of the United States.
Davenport is preparing to lead the WolfPack for his 20th season at the helm, and is the all-time coaching wins leader in school history with 721 victories. He surpassed 1,000 career NJCAA victories during the 2022 season, becoming the 43rd coach in NJCAA history to do so, and boasts 1,060 wins at the moment. During his time at Madison College, Davenport has led the WolfPack to 12 NJCAA Division II World Series appearances, finishing runner-up in 2022. The 14-time region coach of the year has guided his teams to 13 region titles, produced 71 all-region recipients, coached 13 NJCAA All-Americans, three Gold Glove winners, and one NJCAA Defensive Player of the Year. In addition, 14 players under his quidance have been drafted into Major League Baseball, with more than 200 others moving on to play collegiate baseball at four-year institutions.
According to the
official NJCAA release, the NJCAA Baseball Coaches Association will identify 120 players before the calendar shifts to 2024, with the final roster expected to be set during the Spring 2024 semester. The NJCAA All-Star Team last competed in Baseball Week Haarlem in 2010 and finished fourth.
Davenport and the WolfPack begin their
2024 season on March 7 against Chandler-Gilbert Community College in Chandler, Arizona, as part of their annual Arizona Spring Trip. The home opener is set for Thursday, April 4 against Rock Valley College at
Robin Roberts Field.
