BACK-TO-BACK: WolfPack golf claims second straight tournament title

Five place in Top-10 led by runner-up honors for Jacob Brown

WHEATON, ILL. - A second straight tournament win on Thursday closed out the penultimate week of the 2023 Fall season for the Madison College men's golf team, who finished atop a four-team field to win the College of DuPage Invitational at Cantigny Golf Club. The WolfPack, who were the only Division II team in the event, posted a 313 team total just three days after a 308 score won the Judson Invitational, and they now have four wins total for the first time since the 2007-08 team. Freshman Jacob Brown was one shot away from his first career win, placing second for his best individual finish of the fall.

Madison College, which currently owns a would-be school-record 304.1 scoring average this season, was a dozen strokes better of the host Chaparrals and Joliet Junior College in a tie for second.

Brown's three-over-par 75 trailed only Rock Valley College's Logan Gray after he shot a two-over 74. The impressive round for Brown moves his scoring average to exactly 75.0 on the season. A bevy of WolfPack players were right behind the Racine, Wisconsin, native, in the tournament's Top 10. Sophomore Brent Schmiesing claimed third place with a five-over 77, and first year Henry Pickhardt, playing as an individual, turned in a 78 (+6) for fourth place finish and his second-best score of the season.

In a tie for sixth place with a plus-eight 80 was Deegan Riley, and sophomore Brady Callmer rounded out the team scoring with an 81 (+9) to tie for ninth place overall. Freshman Alex Sutter earned a Top 15 place when he tied for 13th at 84 (+12) as an individual.

Sam Knight played as the fifth Madison College team member and carded a 90 (+90) for 25th place, while fellow first year Sam Godager was 26th overall with a 93 (+21) as an individual.
