MADISON, WISC. - When the final buzzer sounded Thursday night inside
H. Douglas Redsten Gymnasium, the Madison College women's basketball team released a deep breath after finally ending an eight-game losing streak with a 60-56 victory over Gogebic Community College. Sophomore
Taylor Ripp and freshmen
Kayla Staveness and

Visiting Gogebic Community College (13-3) led for most of the first quarter and were up by as much as four before the WolfPack tied the game at 10-10 with a
Emma Paulson three-pointer with less than three minutes remaining. The Samsons hit a jumper to take a 12-10 differential into the second quarter, where Madison College caught fire from beyond the arc with four three-pointers. A 7-2 start for the Samsons ended with back-to-back
Kaylee Anzalone triple. After neither team scored for nearly three minutes, Ripp and Davis each hit from long range and the Pack sat on top by a 24-23 margin at the half.

Kayla Staveness free throw made it a 28-25 game early in the second half when GCC went on a 10-0 run. Madison College immediately answered with seven straight points and the game was again tied at 35-35. The Samsons closed the quarter with a three-point lead. The game turned in the home team's favor with less than eight minutes left when Ripp hit a driving layup that put the Pack on top with an 11-0 run. Not going down without a fight, Gogebic Community College twice tied the score in the final five minutes, however, the Pack outscored the competition by a 9-5 margin in the final 3:21 as they went 3 for 3 from the field and 3 for 4 at the free throw line.
