MADISON, WISC. - Looking to begin North Central Community College Conference play with a win, as well as snap an extended losing streak, the Madison College women's basketball team struggled to find their offense down the stretch and in overtime as they fell 83-78 to the College of DuPage on Thursday inside
H. Douglas Redsten Gymnasium. Freshman
Jordanna Davis scored a season-high 24 points and sophomore
Taylor Ripp produced her seventh double-double behind a career-best 16 rebounds for the WolfPack. Despite the loss, the Pack still leads the all-time series by a 28-15 count, with another clash scheduled for January 31 on the Chaparrals home floor.
The College of DuPage (4-11, 1-1) came out firing and hit three 3-pointers in the opening quarter to take a 21-16 lead into the second quarter. Down 30-23 with less than six minutes left in the half, the WolfPack used a Davis three-pointer to ignite a 9-0 run that culminated with an Anzalone bomb. Sophomore
Reyna Knox added her own long range hit in the final 20 seconds to send the home team into the locker room with a 37-34 advantage.
Madison College maintained a narrow lead for most of the third quarter, and after a Davis layup with 4:25 remaining in the quarter, was still up by three at 50-47. The Chaparrals eventually tied the score with a three of their own and led 56-55 going to the final quarter despite a
Kayla Staveness triple with 17 seconds left. In the fourth, the two teams battle back-and-forth, adding to the game's final tally of 14 lead changes and 12 ties. The WolfPack led by four on two occasions, the last of which came on yet another Davis bucket that made it 75-71 with 1:44 remaining. Back-to-back baskets by COD put the visitors up one, but
Mikala Williams converted one of two free throws to tie the game. After forcing a turnover, Madison College was able to get three shots off in the final possession of regulation, but all came up empty as clock expired.
The Chaps opened the extra session with a three-pointer, and after Ripp scored inside to make it 79-78 with 3:18 to play, the Pack went scoreless and were outscored 7-2 in the overtime. Madison College finished the game 1 for 14 over the final 6:45 as their current losing streak reaches six in a row.
Davis, a guard from La Crosse, Wisconsin, reached the 20-point plateau for the fourth time this season, establishing a new high mark with 24 points on 10 of 20 shooting with a three-pointer and a 3 for 4 effort at the free throw line. She also matched a career-high with nine rebounds
Ripp's ninth-career double-double featured 16 points and a career-high 16 rebounds, to go along with five assists and two steals. The Lodi, Wisconsin, native was 7 of 18 overall and 2 for 3 at the charity stripe, while also collected six of her rebounds on the offensive end.
Two others scored in double-figures for the Pack, with Knox and Anzalone going for 13 and 11 points, respectively. Both players knocked down three 3-pointers, which matched a season-high for Knox. Williams posted team-highs with seven assists and five steals, and added seven points and four boards.
Madison College forced 29 turnovers, which led to a 24-15 edge in points off turnovers. The WolfPack also owned a 16-9 lead in second chance points thanks to a season-best 21 offensive rebounds. They finished the game shooting 35% (28-80) from the field, 28% (8-28) outside the arc, and 63% (14-22) at the line.

Madison College (6-12, 0-1) continues the N4C slate with back-to-back road games next week, starting with a Tuesday, January 17 trip to Joliet Junior College (5-15, 1-1). The Wolves swept the regular season series last year, however, the WolfPack own a 22-16 edge all-time. Game time is at 7:00 p.m. in Joliet, Illinois.
