#12 Madison College makes quick work of rival Stormers in sweep

Season's first N4C win extends match win streak to 38, sets streak to 77 against MATC-Milwaukee

MADISON, WISC. - The numbers continued to grow in numerous ways Tuesday night inside H. Douglas Redsten Gymnasium as the Madison College women's volleyball team picked up its first North Central Community College Conference win of the season with a lopsided sweep of in-state rival Milwaukee Area Technical College. The #12-ranked WolfPack rolled to set wins of 25-9, 25-16, 25-12 to to snap a two-match losing streak and secure their 38th straight win over the Stormers, while also pushing a consecutive sets win streak to 77 in the head-to-head series. The two teams will meet again in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, on October 11.

The evening started with the WolfPack rattling off nine consecutive points in the first set to turn a 6-5 deficit into a 14-6. Freshman Tyra Anderson posted two aces during that extended service rally. When the set ended, Madison College had claimed 20 of the last 23 points. Set two also saw Milwaukee Area Technical College (9-8, 1-1) take an early lead at 8-6 before the Pack went on a six-point run to take the lead for good, and slowly pulled away for the nine-point win. To close out the match, coach Mallory (Dixon) Stone's team used a seven-point run that included back-to-back aces from first year Katie Wagner to open a sizable 12-3 advantage. The Stormers kept fighting and got within six at 15-9, however, Madison College again closed out the set by taking ten of the final 13 points.



The WolfPack's .276 attack percentage marks their highest for a match this season, and coincides with 37 total kills that are their most in a three-set match this fall. Madison College had ten or more kills in each set, led by 15 kills and a .342 efficiency in the opening set. They also finished with nine aces and eight blocks.

Anderson, a 5'9" outside hitter, was tops with a dozen kills and registered her second performance with an attack percentage over .300 as she hit .321. Kendall Weisensel, a 5'5" outside hitter/defensive specialist, was right behind with ten kills and hit at the same .321 clip, while also picking up a team-best 11 digs for her fourth double-double.

Freshman Daryn Schaefer has taken over the primary setter responsibilities and amassed 34 in the winning effort. The former Wisconsin Heights HS athlete is averaging 8.9 assists per set over the last five matches, which have seen Schaefer post an average of 33.8 assists per match.

Anderson, Schaefer, Wagner, and Aubrie Kappes each registered a pair of aces, while first year middle blocker MacKenzie Plunkett led the defensive battle atop the net with four blocks. The McFarland, Wisconsin, native has stacked up 18 blocks over the last five matches.



Madison College leads the all-time series by a 92-29-3 tally.
