SAUKVILLE & SHEBOYGAN FALLS, WISC. - A prolonged delay after a promising weekend in mid-April left the Madison College golf team in search of positive momentum, which was tough to find over two challenging days at the BSC Legends Classic hosted by Bryant & Stratton College on Friday and Saturday. The WolfPack finished with a two-day total of 705 to place third in the three-team event, however, freshman
Matt Paulson did record his first career top-ten finish with a tie for sixth overall after rounds at
The Bog and
The Bull at Pinehurst Farms.
Madison College opened the weekend with a 354 team score on Friday, and improved by three strokes as a team for a 351 on day two. They finished 45 shots back of second place College of DuPage. The host Bobcats won the event with a 643 two-day total.
Paulson, a former Mukwonago HS athlete, fired a six-over-par 78 on the opening day to sit one shot off the pace in third. He posted a 41 on the outward nine, before carding five pars and two birdies on the back nine as part of a 37. Paulson signed off on just seven total pars Saturday and shot an 87 to fall back into a tie for sixth overall at 165 (+21). The top-ten finish is a career best. Caden Fletcher of Bryant & Stratton College was the tournament medalist at 154 (+10).
Jake Rebholz also placed in the top ten, going 87-89 for a 176 (+32) total to sit alone in tenth place. The Verona, Wisconsin, native registered 11 total pars on the weekend, and posted his lone birdie on Friday.
Tyler Dahl was right behind with a 178 (+34) that tied him for 11th overall. The native of Pleasant Prairie, Wisconsin, showed the biggest improvement from the first day to the second, shaving ten shots off his score. Dahl used four pars to shoot a 94 (+22) at The Bog, and then had eight pars and a birdie post a 12-over-par 84 at The Bull.
Madison College also counted a 186 (+42) from
Nicholas Kipp, who shot 95-91 to improve by four shots and place 15th overall.
Darris Schuett was seven strokes better on day two, however, it followed a challenging 98 to open the tournament and he finished with a 189 (+45) for 16th place.
