WolfPack comes up short at Region 4 Tournament

Paulson, Kipp, & Rebholz earn All-Region awards

BYRON, ILL. - For the third consecutive year, the Region 4 Division III Golf Tournament was a head-to-head showdown between Madison College and the College of DuPage. Unfortunately, for the WolfPack, the Chaparrals were up for the challenege yet again as they claimed their third straight Region 4 title with a 621 to 648 defeat of the WolfPack at PrairieView Golf Club on Sunday and Monday. The Pack trailed by ten strokes after day one, and were unable to gain any ground over the course of the final 18 holes. Freshmen Matt Paulson, Nicholas Kipp, and Jake Rebholz all placed inside the top seven, earning All-Region 4 honors.

The College of DuPage posted a 309 team score on the opening day to sit ten shots better than Madison College at 319. The differential widened throughout Round 2 as both teams saw their scores increase, however, the Chaparrals took the second day 312 to 329 to win the championship by 27 strokes.

The competition was much more intense on an individual level. Jake Rebholz shared a piece of the lead with a three-way tie at two-over-par 74, marking a career-best round for the Verona, Wisconsin, native. The momentum, though, did not carry over to the second day, as Rebholz posted an 87 (+15) to reach 161 (+17) for the tournament. Meanwhile, Matt Paulson was just two shots off the pace after Round 1 with a four-over-par 76 to match his career-best 18-hole score. The native of North Prairie, Wisconsin, followed it up six-over-par 78 to sign off on a two-day total of 154 (+10), earning third place overall and First Team All-Region 4 distinction. Damian Guerrero of COD was the Region 4 medalist with a 150 after scores of 74 and 76.

Oregon, Wisconsin, native, Nick Kipp, made significant strides in Round 2, improving seven shots from his opening round 84 (+12) to shoot five-over-par 77, a career-best 18-hole total. Kipp's 161 tied him with Rebholz, however, Kipp's better second day score gives him six place and Rebholz seventh as both receive Second Team All-Region 4 accolades.

Tyler Dahl and Darris Schuett rounded out the Madison College scoring, with two day totals of 174 (+30) and 175 (+31), respectively. Dahl carded back-to-back rounds of 87 (+15) to place eighth, while Schuett went 85 (+13) and 90 (+18).
