WolfPack unable to maintain first half lead, suffer season's second loss

Voung adds two more goals as five-match win streak is snapped

MADISON, WISC. - A pair of first half goals by freshman Gabe Voung was not enough Saturday as the Madison College men's soccer team lost to visiting College of DuPage by a 3-2 final at Irwin A. & Robert D. Goodman Pitch-East. The setback marks the second time this season the WolfPack have suffered a loss reaching five straight wins. Prior to the game, the team celebrated the nine-member Sophomore Class of 2022, which included Ronaldo, Bello, Chase Quamme, Adriano Ponte, Brayan Loyo, Evan Thom, Caeben Schomber, Jesus Arvizo, Ian Marquardt, and Adrian Henkovic

Division II College of DuPage (6-7) struck first with a goal less than five minutes into the match, and it came on the first official shot of the match. Madison College answered with two goals before the first came to a conclusion. The WolfPack worked the ball up the field with some precision passing, the last of which was first year midfielder/forward Richie Lima finding Voung for an open look at the top of the goal box.

As time was winding down in the opening half, the Pack struck again. This time Madison College played the ball back to goalkeeper Phil McCloskey, who sent a booming pass deep down the middle of the pitch. After a missed header attempt by one COD defender, the bouncing ball was tracked down by Voung, who had one defender with him. A quick re-direction play by Voung moved the ball near the top of the penalty box, where Voung fired a left-footed shot that beat the 'keeper inside the right post.

The 2-1 lead for Madison College entering the second half would not hold up, as the Chaparrals rallied with a 66' equalizer and the 79' game-winner off a set play. Madison College generated just one shot the entire second half, when missed wide left in the 88' trying to tie the score.

The College of DuPage produced a 10-7 lead in total shots and an 8-4 advantage in shots on goal. Voung, the Sun Prairie, Wisconsin, native, led the Pack in both categories, with three total shots and two on goal. His two scoring strikes give him 18 goals on the year, and places him in a tie for the lead nationally. The assist for Lima is his third this fall, while McCloskey now boasts two.

McCloskey was also credited with five saves and the three goals allowed.

The College of DuPage leads the all-time series by a 3-1-1 margin.
