N4C CHAMPS! WolfPack secure first league title since 2016

Voung hat trick completes Madison College's run to second N4C crown

MADISON, WISC. - For the second time since joining the North Central Community College Conference in 2009, the Madison College men's soccer team are champions of the league after defeating Joliet Junior College by a 5-1 margin Wednesday in the home regular season finale at Irwin A. & Robert D. Goodman Pitch-East. The WolfPack took full advantage of three goals from freshman Gabe Voung to secure their first title since 2016, as well as solidify a #1-seed for the upcoming Region 4 Tournament.

Voung, a 6'0" forward, blasted the WolfPack to a 1-0 lead just 40 seconds into the match after JJC turned the ball over deep in their zone. Fellow first year Dominick Ramirez eventually found Voung, who made a sharp move to his right to elude the last remaining defender before firing a shot past the goalkeeper. The Sun Prairie, Wisconsin, native struck again in the 15' thanks to some poor teamwork by the Wolves. A long pass from Tomas Garcia made its way into the penalty box, and when the ball was misplayed by both the Joliet Junior College defender and goalkeeper, it left Voung to walk the ball past the goalline for a 2-0 WolfPack lead.

The Wolves cut the back to one with a penalty kick goal scored in the 37' to make it 2-1.

Madison College struck twice in the first 12 minutes of the second half to create a little separation. Garcia, a defender from Madison, Wisconsin, tallied his first career goal with a rocket to the top left corner off a 53' set play pass from Angel Gongora. Four minutes later, Adair Tlato chased down a loose ball at the end line and sent a pass into the goal box, where Voung was able to score amongst three purple jerseys to make it 4-1. Ramirez, a midfielder from Madison Memorial HS, posted the final goal with a laser over the head of the JJC 'keeper in the 72'. Evan Thom was credited with an assist.

Voung now sits alone atop the NJCAA Division III scoring lists with 21 goals, and is second in total points with 46. His second career hat trick also marks his seventh multi-goal match of the season. Voung has scored in 11 of the team's 13 matches this season, and is currently riding a seven-match scoring streak that features 12 goals in all.

Madison College dominated the ball with a 27-15 differential in total shots and a 15-6 lead in shots on goal. Voung and Ramirez each had six total shots and three shots on goal. Three others also had multiple shots on goal.

Freshman Phil McCloskey made five saves and allowed one goal.

Madison College is now 16-12-4 all-time against Joliet Junior College (5-11, 3-3), including 12 straight matches with a win or a tie as they complete the regular season sweep.
